The Beautiful Square Mountain
Yongren County is 250 km from Kunming, 180 km from the prefectural seat of Chuxiong Chuxiong, 80 km from PanZhiHua Municipality (Sichuang Province). The Square Mountain is a famous scenic spot of Yongren County, 16 km. from the county seat. It is a scenic spot displaying magnificent mountains with sheer cliffs and grotesque rocks among dense forest and towering ancient trees accompanied by meadows with various kinds of wild flowers. The famous points of interest such as the River-viewing hill, the Pearl-dripping cliff, the Seven-star bridge, the Fairy-maidens¡¯ pool, the Hawk cliff, the Kongming cave, the cool waterfall, the Rhinoceros pool and so on are attractive in their respective ways.
The square Mountain is the fortress of traveling between Yunnan and Sichuang, and the on1y way of monks holding Buddish service. The southern ancient Silk Road, the Cheng-Kun railroad and the l08 national highway hand over to the ground. There are more than 40 kinds of animals and over 140 varieties of woody plants. The elevation of the main peak is about 2,400 meters, enjoying the long spring and autumn and the short winter and summer with an average temperature of 11.4oC yearly, an annual rainfall of 1,160 mm and a forest coverage of 75.6%. T he weather being pleasant, it wins the good reputation of the "Fresh and cool world", and the "Beautiful Garden of PanZhihua". You will be charmed with more than 20 pieces of wonderful scenry, to be relaxed and happy. The mysterious legends, the gorgeous humane views and the natural landscape constitute the fairyland, being the race place of interest in the west to Pan Zhihua.
The scenic area has been well known in Yunnan and received tourists ever since the beginning of the Qing dynasty. Regarded as an ideal land for taking a closer touch to the nature, it is now full of the cloud-capped ancient trees, the sea of forest that covers the sun, the towering crags, the strangely-formed rocks, the attractive landscapes and the sweet spring. Since 1990, the Square Mountain has been restored, developed and constructed with a total investment of over 20 million yuan and its landscapes have been greatly improved. In 1994, it was listed in the first group of the scenic resorts of Yunnan Province. Then, upon the approval of the Provincial People's Government, it was reported for being granted the title of the national scenic resort (the national AA grade scenic area). |
