About Yongren
Yongren County is located in Chuxiong Yi Nationality Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province . It has a total area of 2189 square kilometres and population of 103.96 thousand. Yongren is a multi-national county. Besides Han, there are 18 ethnic groups (Yi, Dai, Hui, Lisu ¡ ) living in the county, making up the majority of more than half of its population.
Location: Yongren lies on the mid-north border of Yunnan, an important access to Sichuang. It is 250 km from Kunming, 180 km from Chuxiong, 80 km from PanZhiHua Municipality (Sichuang Province). In 1988, Yongren was approved by the Chinese government (the State Council) as a particular area open to foreigners (open city) .

Topographic features: Mt. ranges Yunling traversing across N.W. part of Yongren.On the peak of Mt. Fangshan (the Square Mountain) there is a well-known Buddhist monastery £¨ Jinde Si £© . A number of the tributaries of the Jinsha River, by the names of Wanma, Yongding, Jiandi, Yanti, Baima ¡ f1ow meanderingly through the hilly countriside. As Yongren is a rolling downy county, it is subjected to the northern subtropical monsoon. Its climate is bland and mi1d. It has an annual average temperature of 17.7 ¡æ . It's sunshine time is reckoned as the topmost in Yunnan £¬ that helps to the raising of crops and many other economic products. |
As regards forests its coverage has reached 35. 19%, esp. its Pinus Yunnensis nursery stock grove together with an emblic base (10.000 ha.) are also reckoned as the topmost in our province. In addition, there is an economic products (chiefly chest nut) plantation (7000 ha.). When a visitor drops in Yongren, what strikes him first may be the extensive grassland, something around 150,000 ha, that provides excellent pastures for animal husbandry. At present our livestock on hand is 460,000, and a livestock commodity base is scheduled to set up across the board. Our cultivated land is only 10.000 ha , solely for planting paddy ,maize, wheat and a staple of tobacco (of fragrant type).
| The proved, available hydropower in Yongren is estimated to be 270,000 kw. As to the mineral resources, there are copper, gold, silver, nickel, platinum, palladium, gypsum, quartzite, granite and coal etc; rich in deposit, high in grade, accessible to work. Yongren is rich in medicinal herbs, i.e. aweto, tuckahoe, skullcap, pinellia ¡ etc. As for fauna, such as lesser pandas, pangolins, owls, leopards some of which are really rare aves, all at ease in the ecoclimate. |

By 1993, arround Jingde Si a large stretch of open field was demarcated and approved as a provincial grade scenic district, an ideal traveling and vacation spot, esp, during the Dai¡¯s ¡°Water-Splashing Festival¡±, and the Yi¡¯s ¡°Torch Festival¡± and ¡°The Gorgeous Ethnic Costume Contest (Fashion Festival)¡±, in their gala days, the merry-making scenes give visitors pleasant memories.
